Interesting. I always thought The Netherlands was the only country in the world where mortgage interest is tax deductible - never knew America has it too.

I have quite a few friends who are looking into buying a property as means of investment, but subsequently don't look at it as an investment, but rather some sort of infallibly good investment. When you crunch the numbers in the current market, renting a house seems far better priced than buying a property with a mortgage.
